Sossan & Nikos: A hip and colorful wedding in Ios

A gorgeous Afghan bride and a stunning Greek groom travel from Californiia, U.S.A,  for a bright and colorful destination wedding on the Greek island of Ios

This beautiful couple travelled from California for a dreamy wedding on the Greek island of Ios. Wedding Planner Konstantina Lafara of Soo Events who planned and coordinated this special event, recalls and gives us all the details.

Sossan is from Afghanistan and Nikos is from Greece, so there was a rich mix of cultural backgrounds to incorporate into their special day. In order to make the best of both worlds, we decided to blend the bright colors of an Afghan wedding, with the blue of the sea and the fuchsia of the bougainvilleas, that are considered trademarks of the Greek islands.

The ceremony took place in a villa overlooking the Aegean sea. The bride wore a stunning Rita Vinieris gown. She was so radiant and happy in it, that even the strong wind didn’t seem to worry her one bit. The groom chose a blue and grey suit, that came with little boats design on the inside, along with a beautiful saying to his bride-to-be. The guests arrived at the villa around 5pm and were welcomed with favors such as wooden fans, panama hats and parasols. to make them feel more comfortable during the warm day. The groom waited in front of a wooden frame, decorated with bougainvilleas, peach and pink David Austin roses and other colorful flowers, while his bride walked down the aisle next to her father. After the ceremony, the guests congratulatedthe newlyweds and had some refreshments before heading for the reception at Ios Club.

The same color palette inspired us and was used for the setup of the reception. White tables, pink and petrol blue dinner plates and colorful centerpieces, others on the tables and others hanging from above, were the central elements of the reception design. Our favorite items were the custom made wooden and plexi glass table numbers, that came in different colors. The favors were traditional worry beads in yellow, blue and orange(also known as kompoloi), which is a very common traditional Greek item.
The couple entered the reception venue around sunset time and were welcomed by a very enthusiastic crowd. After having dinner under the spectacular fairy light sky they cut their orange and coral brush stroke decorated wedding cake and danced until the early morning hours with their friends.
